We are pleased to announce that they are the first company in Europe to purchase a Morbark 4600XL Track Wood Hog. This awesome horizontal wood shredder is a machine with a huge capacity, equipped with a 1050 HP strong Caterpillar engine it is capable of producing up to 100 Tons/Hour of biomass from green brash wood.

The primary use for the Morbark Wood Hog will in the production of biofuel from green brash wood. Deployed on site within a forest that’s timber is being harvested the Morbark will process all the waste wood, such as branches, stumps and unsuitable timber into chipped biofuel.

Thompsons then load and transport the processed biomass to one of two biofuel power plants they supply.

Biofuel production from what would otherwise be an industrial waste product will go a long way to meet the 2020 Government target of having 31% of energy produced from renewable resources.

With current energy production by renewables sitting around the 8% - 10% mark there is considerable scope for growth in the biomass market over the coming years. Biomass production is an important component within the renewable energy sector where it currently accounts for 81% (2008 figures) of all renewable energy output.
