Thompsons Plant Hire has a proven track record in providing biomass, for the new generation of low carbon power plants. The biofuel sector has increased dramatically in the last few years, and with Government targets set to have renewable energy production increasing from 8% - 31% of total energy output by 2020, biomass production continues to be a growth area.

Biomass is an important source of energy production; figures show that in 2008 it accounted for 81% of all renewable energy, with hydro, wind and solar power falling far behind with only 19% between them.

Morbark 4600XL Track Wood Hog

Thompson's were the first company in Europe to take delivery of a Morbark 4600XL Track Wood Hog. This massive machine is designed to work in the most inaccessible of locations. Usually found in a remote Scottish forest it has the capacity to produce up to 100 Tons/Hour of biomass from green brash wood and tree stumps. Once shredded into biomass it is loaded onto Thompson's fleet of walking floor artic trailer ready for delivery to the client.

Not all clients require the sheer processing power of the Morbark 4600XL which is why Thompson's have a range of shredders. Many customers have the ability to store unprocessed waste onsite, having it processed every so often. Thompson's operate a Jenz AZ960 that allows them to process client's waste wherever and whenever the client requires.

The company recently achieved the BSI Pass 100 certification, which sets out the industry standard for composting. They have the ability to take green waste into their premises at Flimby, sort and process it into compost that complies with the industry standard. Thompson's recycle 100% of the waste matter they take in, with everything that fails the sorting process being converted into biomass, to be used in power generation.
